We’re looking for enthusiastic Ceramic Arts Instructors and Work/Trade Interns to join our team! Whether your strengths are in wheel throwing, handbuilding, glazing, or advanced techniques, we’d love to hear from you.


We value teachers and interns who create a positive, inclusive, and engaging studio environment. If you have teaching experience—or simply want to support our studio and share your love of the craft—this is a great opportunity to grow and help others do the same.

Position: Ceramic Arts Instructor and Work/Trade Intern

Location: 304 Georgia Street @ Vallejo Clay Workshop

TEACHERS

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons on a variety of ceramic techniques.

  • Create a positive, safe, and inspiring classroom environment.

  • Provide constructive feedback to students on their work.

  • Demonstrate technical skills and teach creative problem-solving.

  • Maintain organization of tools, materials, and classroom supplies.

  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs and interests of students.

  • Foster a supportive and encouraging community among students.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in ceramic arts, including but not limited to wheel throwing, handbuilding, glazing, and firing processes.

  • Prior teaching or workshop experience is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to work with students of all ages and skill levels.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A passion for teaching and inspiring others to create.


WORK/TRADE INTERNS

Responsibilities:

  • Help with daily studio cleanup (sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces)

  • Recycle and wedge clay

  • Load, unload, and organize student work on shelves

  • Mix glazes and replenish studio materials (under supervision)

  • Assist with kiln loading and unloading

  • Maintain tools, bats, and equipment in clean working order

  • Support instructors during lessons (prepping materials, assisting students)

  • Organize student work for drying, bisque, and glaze firing

  • Restock classroom supplies

Qualifications:

  • Some prior experience in ceramics (wheel throwing, handbuilding, or both)

  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow through on commitments

  • Physically able to lift up to 25–50 lbs (clay, kiln shelves, buckets, etc.)

  • Basic understanding of clay stages, firing, and glazing (helpful but can be taught)

  • Strong attention to detail and care for materials and tools
