We get a lot of students who are looking for daytime classes, which can be a little tricky since the studio is used as a production pottery studio during the day (pays the bills) and then transforms into a teaching studio in the evenings and on weekends, (which, it must be said, also pays the bills).
We hear the demand and we are going to see if we can pull together enough students to get a morning class to go for Thursdays, January 12-February 16, 2023 10 AM to 1 PM. We need at least 4 students to express their interest and commit to the class by filling out this form, and when we hit our minimum of 4 people, the class is a go and students will be invoiced at that time.
The class is our most popular class, Pinch, Coil, Slab: Functional Pottery Making for Beginners. Read more about this class below and be sure to fill out the interest form if you want to join us in January!
Pinch, Coil, Slab: Functional Pottery Making for Beginners is for people who want to get their hands in clay and have little to no experience with making pottery.
In each class students will be led through step-by-step demonstrations on basic handbuilding techniques including pinching, coiling, and working with rolled slabs. Projects will focus on making functional ceramics that can be used everyday such as mugs, vases, planters, and pitchers.
Along with making pottery, you will learn about characteristics of clay, the process involved in creating ceramics from beginning to end, and experience glazing your own work.
Pinch, Coil, Slab: Functional Pottery Making for Beginnersis focused on creating a fun and judgement-free space for people to learn a new creative skill, and providing the support students need to be successful in making pottery that they will be able to use once it's finished.
Tools, clay, glaze, and firing will all be provided in this class. Just bring an apron and be ready to get your hands dirty!
Open to people 14 and up.
