About the class
Handmade at Home Level 2: Form and function
Jan 12- February 23 (Tuesday nights)
6:30-8 PM
In this class we will continue to expand our clay vocabulary through hand building with clay from home using pinching, coil building, and clay slabs. We will be push our understanding of form and function while focusing on creating everyday objects out of clay such as pitchers, berry bowls, ceramic baskets, and wall vases. Each class includes on-line demonstrations and will address issues of design, construction, and function.
This class is appropriate for beginners who have had some clay experience and understand the basics of making with clay.
With your registration, you will receive access to a live demonstration for that week's lesson starting at 6:30 sharp, after which class will stay live until 8 PM. In case you miss a class or would like to review, you will also be provided with a link to a video that walks you through the demonstration again. You will also receive an occasional recorded instructional video with further information about projects. You will glaze your own projects in the studio using studio materials.
Students will be given 3,000 cubic inches of firing space. Anything above that will be charged 3 cents per cubic inch. (Don't worry, 3,000 cubic inches should be plenty of space.)
If you are local you will need to come to the studio to pick up your materials. You will be provided with a board to work on, plastic to keep projects damp, and clay. You will be scheduled to come into the studio at the end of the session to glaze your work. You may purchase your own tool kit or borrow one from the studio, there is a $25 deposit to borrow a kit.
Non-local students may still take the online portion of the class, you will need to source your own materials, tools, and firing.
Students should be at least 14 years of age and able to self-direct in a learning environment. Parents are welcome to use their materials to teach the classes to their children. Additional materials may be purchased for this use.
