About the Class
Handmade at Home: Creating everyday functional objects
March 3- April 8 (Wednesday nights)
In this class we will explore hand building with clay at home using pinching, coil building, and clay slabs. We will be focusing on creating everyday objects out of clay such as bowls, cups, plates, vases, and planters. Each class includes a video demonstration of each lesson, and a live 90 minute class each week where you can get feedback on your work and address issues of form, function, and construction.
This class is appropriate for beginners and more advanced students alike!
With your registration, you will receive access to a live demonstration for that week's lesson starting at 6:30 sharp, after which class will stay live until 8 PM. You will be provided with a link to a YouTube video that walks you through the demonstration that you can view at any time. You will also receive an occasional recorded instructional video with further information about projects. You will glaze your own projects in the studio using studio materials.
Students will be given 3,000 cubic inches of firing space. Anything above that will be charged 3 cents per cubic inch. (Don't worry, 3,000 cubic inches should be plenty of space.)
You will need to come to the studio to pick up your materials. You will be provided with a board to work on, plastic to keep projects damp, and clay. You may purchase your own tool kit or borrow one from the studio, there is a $25 deposit to borrow a kit. You will be scheduled to come into the studio at the end of the session to glaze your work.
Students should be at least 14 years of age and able to self-direct in a learning and adult environment.
