April 9-May 14
Instructor: Sara Kagan-Real
This hands-on 6 session course focuses on the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing: wedging, centering the clay, opening the well, and raising walls. We'll explore the proper hand positioning, pressure control, and how to use basic pottery tools effectively. This class is designed for beginners and people who are still working on refining their basic wheel throwing technique.
Throughout this course, you will be guided step by step, provided expert demonstrations and personalized attention to help you develop your pottery skills.
We'll also cover essential topics such as trimming and glazing, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the pottery process from start to finish. You'll gain insights into the properties of clay, firing, and the transformative nature of glazes.
This class includes clay, glaze, and access to Open Studio hours. Students will need to provide their own tools, apron, and hand towel.
Tool list:
Tools can easily be ordered from Clay Planet in San Jose or picked up in person at Clay People in Richmond.
