This hands-on 6 session course is designed to introduce you to the process of shaping clay on a potter's wheel. You'll learn the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing, from centering the clay to creating various forms like cups, bowls, and vases. We'll explore the proper hand positioning, pressure control, and how to use basic pottery tools effectively.
Throughout this course, you will be guided step by step, provided expert demonstrations and personalized attention to help you develop your pottery skills.
We'll cover essential topics such as wedging, trimming, and glazing, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the pottery process from start to finish. You'll gain insights into the properties of clay, firing, and the transformative nature of glazes.
This class comes with a bag of clay and access to Open Studio hours. Students will need to provide their own tools, apron, and hand towel.

Students should purchase the following tools for class:
Y5 plastic rib from Mud Tools or similar
Wood tool for trimming wet clay
Students will need a couple of different types of tools for trimming. We reccommend:
One or two 8" ribbon tools from the 8R series of Kemper ribbon tools
At least one heavier trim tool from the FW series of trim tools
These items can easily be ordered from Clay Planet in San Jose or picked up in person at Clay People in Richmond.
Cancellation and refund policy
6 and 8 week classes require a 10 day notice for a refund.
For classes with a waitlist, we will refund you up to 24 hours before class if we can fill your spot, but this is not guaranteed.
In this case there will be a 15% cancellation fee to cover our time.
