This hands-on 8 week course is designed to introduce you to the process of shaping clay on a potter's wheel. You'll learn the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing, from centering the clay to creating various forms like cups, bowls, and vases. We'll explore the proper hand positioning, pressure control, and how to use basic pottery tools effectively.
Throughout this course, you will be guided step by step, provided expert demonstrations and personalized attention to help you develop your pottery skills.
We'll cover essential topics such as wedging, trimming, and glazing, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the pottery process from start to finish. You'll gain insights into the properties of clay, firing, and the transformative nature of glazes.
Please note enrolling students must have at least 12 weeks of a handbuilding course (or equivilent) and understand the basic stages of creating pottery from clay to firing. This is not a course for people with no clay experience.
This class comes with a bag of clay and access to Open Studio hours. Students will need to provide their own tools, apron, and hand towel.
